Position Summary:
The HVAC Installer is responsible for the safe, professional, and efficient installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential and light commercial applications, including equipment replacements, new construction, and system upgrades.

This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to delivering quality workmanship. The HVAC Installer works as part of a coordinated installation team to complete projects on schedule, meet applicable codes and manufacturer specifications, maintain a clean and safe jobsite, and provide a positive customer experience.

Every installation represents the company’s reputation. Success in this position means completing the job correctly, communicating effectively, supporting the team, and taking ownership of the finished product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Equipment Installation and Workmanship:
  • Install HVAC equipment and related components in accordance with approved job specifications, manufacturer instructions, applicable codes, and company standards.
  • Install furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, ventilation equipment, thermostats, ductwork, refrigerant piping, condensate drains, and associated system components as assigned.
  • Complete equipment change-outs, new construction installations, and system upgrades.
  • Install and connect ductwork, plenums, fittings, registers, grilles, equipment supports, and related air distribution components.
  • Complete refrigerant piping, condensate management, venting, combustion air, and electrical/control connections within the employee’s training, qualifications, and legal scope of work.
  • Coordinate with plumbing and electrical trades when work requires additional expertise or licensed trade involvement.
  • Verify equipment placement, clearances, service access, drainage, airflow provisions, and installation details before considering the job complete.
  • Perform required startup procedures, system checks, testing, and commissioning according to manufacturer requirements and company procedures.
  • Identify installation conflicts, defective materials, missing parts, and unexpected site conditions; communicate issues promptly rather than proceeding with an improper installation.
  • Protect the customer’s property and existing finishes throughout the installation process.

Safety and Code Compliance:
  • Follow all M.Air safety procedures, applicable OSHA requirements, building and mechanical codes, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Use required personal protective equipment and appropriate tools, ladders, lifting equipment, and fall protection.
  • Follow safe procedures for handling refrigerants, electrical components, gas-fired equipment, combustion venting, and other installation hazards.
  • Maintain awareness of jobsite conditions and stop work when an unsafe condition or potentially hazardous installation is identified.
  • Report accidents, near misses, property damage, equipment defects, and safety concerns immediately.
  • Maintain required certifications and qualifications for assigned work, including applicable refrigerant-handling credentials.
  • Never bypass safety devices, ignore code requirements, or conceal installation deficiencies to save time.

Job Planning and Productivity:
  • Review assigned work orders, installation scope, equipment specifications, drawings, material lists, and special instructions before beginning work.
  • Confirm that required equipment, materials, tools, and jobsite access are available.
  • Communicate missing materials, scheduling conflicts, scope discrepancies, and potential delays to the appropriate manager as early as possible.
  • Organize work to minimize unnecessary trips, wasted materials, downtime, and disruptions to other trades.
  • Work efficiently while maintaining installation quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Coordinate work sequencing with coworkers, general contractors, other trades, and the office team.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and contribute to the overall progress of the installation.
  • Avoid preventable callbacks by verifying connections, controls, drainage, venting, and system operation before leaving the jobsite.

Quality Control and System Commissioning:
  • Inspect completed work for workmanship, code compliance, proper support, sealing, insulation, and accessibility.
  • Verify required electrical and control connections, condensate drainage, refrigerant-system integrity, combustion venting, and other applicable installation requirements.
  • Complete required startup and commissioning checklists, measurements, and test results.
  • Verify thermostat operation, equipment staging, system response, and proper operation of applicable heating and cooling functions.
  • Identify and correct deficiencies within the employee’s scope before requesting final inspection or turnover.
  • Escalate unresolved problems to the installation manager or appropriate technical resource.
  • Support inspections, punch-list completion, warranty requirements, and corrective work as assigned.

Customer Service and Professionalism:
  • Represent M.Air professionally when interacting with customers, general contractors, inspectors, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Arrive prepared and on time, wearing the required M.Air uniform and maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly regarding installation progress, jobsite access, disruptions, and completion expectations.
  • Protect floors, walls, furniture, landscaping, and other property; use appropriate coverings and cleanup procedures.
  • Maintain a courteous, solution-oriented attitude, even when the job becomes challenging.
  • Direct customer questions regarding system operation, scope changes, pricing, or additional work to the appropriate person when authorization is required.
  • Provide basic equipment-operation instructions and customer handoff information as assigned.
  • Never make unauthorized promises, pricing commitments, scope changes, or warranty representations.

Documentation and Job Closeout:
  • Complete all required work-order documentation in the M.Air’s designated system, including Sage Field Operations when applicable.
  • Record installation details, equipment model and serial numbers, materials used, test results, startup information, and outstanding deficiencies.
  • Upload required jobsite photos showing equipment installation, connections, completed work, and relevant concealed components before they become inaccessible.
  • Document changes to the original scope, unexpected conditions, additional material requirements, and work requiring follow-up.
  • Communicate job status, completion, inspection needs, and outstanding items to the office and installation manager.
  • Confirm that required documentation, checklists, photos, and commissioning records are complete before closing out the job.
  • Ensure the customer and office team have the information needed for warranty registration, invoicing, future service, and maintenance.

Required standard: A job is not complete simply because the equipment is installed. It is complete when the installation is verified, the jobsite is clean, required documentation is submitted, and outstanding issues are communicated.

Tools, Vehicles, Materials, and Equipment:
  • Maintain and properly use assigned tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
  • Keep M.Air vehicles clean, organized, fueled, and ready for work.
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns.
  • Organize and secure equipment and materials to prevent damage, loss, and unnecessary waste.
  • Track material usage and report shortages, defective products, and damaged equipment.
  • Use M.Air tools, vehicles, and materials responsibly.
  • Maintain an organized work area and return unused materials, tools, and equipment to their designated locations.

Teamwork and Accountability:
  • Contribute to a team culture built on cooperation, respect, shared responsibility, and professional pride.
  • Help coworkers when appropriate, share knowledge, and support the overall success of the installation.
  • Take ownership of assigned work rather than assuming another team member will finish or correct it.
  • Communicate problems directly and constructively through the appropriate channels.
  • Accept coaching, feedback, and direction from supervisors and experienced team members.
  • Avoid gossip, finger-pointing, unnecessary negativity, and behavior that undermines team morale.
  • Support service technicians and other departments by providing accurate installation information and identifying issues that may affect future serviceability.
  • Recognize that the success of the team depends on each person completing their responsibilities consistently.

Estimating, Site Evaluation, and Material Takeoffs:
  • Perform site evaluations for HVAC equipment replacements, new installations, system upgrades, and new construction projects as assigned.
  • Gather accurate field measurements, equipment information, photographs, and jobsite conditions necessary to prepare installation estimates.
  • Review plans, specifications, existing equipment, ductwork, refrigerant piping, venting, electrical requirements, condensate drainage, access limitations, and other installation considerations.
  • Identify required equipment, materials, fittings, accessories, labor, specialty tools, subcontractor coordination, and other resources necessary to complete the proposed scope of work.
  • Prepare accurate material takeoffs and equipment lists, including quantities, sizes, model information, and special-order requirements.
  • Identify potential complications, code compliance issues, concealed conditions, equipment access concerns, and other factors that may affect installation cost, schedule, or feasibility.
  • Estimate labor hours and crew requirements based on project complexity, site conditions, equipment type, and installation scope.
  • Identify opportunities to improve installation efficiency, equipment serviceability, energy performance, and long-term system reliability.
  • Communicate discrepancies between the existing conditions, customer requests, project plans, and proposed scope to the appropriate manager before an estimate is finalized.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and the office team to obtain equipment specifications, material availability, lead times, and pricing as needed.
  • Prepare estimates using company-approved estimating tools, templates, pricing structures, and procedures.
  • Clearly document assumptions, exclusions, allowances, required customer-provided items, and work that may require additional authorization.
  • Submit estimates and supporting documentation for review and approval according to company policy.
  • Maintain accurate records of field measurements, material lists, and estimating notes so the installation team can use the information to plan and execute the work.

Estimate Handoff and Scope Management:
  • Review approved estimates, proposals, work orders, plans, and specifications before beginning installation.
  • Confirm that the approved scope, equipment selections, material requirements, and installation expectations align with actual site conditions.
  • Identify missing materials, scope discrepancies, estimating errors, and potential cost overruns as early as possible.
  • Communicate changes in site conditions, customer requests, and additional work requirements to management before proceeding beyond the approved scope.
  • Prepare supplemental material lists, labor assessments, or change-order information when additional work is identified.
  • Obtain the required authorization before performing work that changes the approved scope or creates additional charges.
  • Provide feedback to management on actual labor hours, material usage, unexpected conditions, and differences between estimated and actual project costs.
